Digital Back Adapters

Silvestri does not itself make digital backs, but it creates a remarkable series of linkage devices to join various camera bodies to these backs.

The appropriate camera bodies include not only Silvestri's own Bicam and Flexicam, but a broad variety of non-Silvestri models, both 6x9 and 4x5.

The linkage devices include both sliding and fixed back adapters, plus related accessories.

Three features of Silvestri's digital back adapters require explanation: the style of interface, the drop-in plate feature and the camera body conversion plate.

 To shift from a digital back with one of these interfaces to another digital back with another style interface has generally required the purchase of a second (compatible) back adapter. But Silvestri has innovated a drop-in plate feature. You simply buy your sliding adapter with the one insertable plate that has the interface you need (V for example). Later, if you acquire a digital back with (for example) a Mamiya interface, you buy a second plate for your existing sliding back adapter. This is a unique Silvestri feature, applying to all of our sliding back adapters except those for the Flexicam.

 All Silvestri sliding adapters with the drop-in feature also have stitching capability. Those without this feature (for Flexicam) lack the stitching capability.

 The third and final special feature, the camera body conversion plate, applies when you are joining a non-Silvestri 4x5 view camera to a Silvestri sliding back adapter. For converting non-Silvestri 6x9 view cameras for use with a Silvestri sliding back adapter, no plate is required: the factory has altered the sliding back design to fit directly into each type of 6x9 view camera (Arca, Linhof, Toyo, etc.).

 We can divide the Silvestri digital back adapters into six groups.

1. Sliding back adapters, with the drop-in plate feature, for Silvestri Bicam.

2. Sliding back adapters, without the drop-in plate feature, for Silvestri Flexicam

3. Sliding back adapters, with drop-in plates, for non-Silvestri 6x9 view cameras; no camera body adapter plates are required because such plates are customized at the factory for the specific style of the 6x9 camera

4. Sliding back adapters, with drop-in plates and camera body conversion plates, for non-Silvestri 4x5 cameras

5. Fixed ("live video") adapter plates for Silvestri Bicam and for non-Silvestri 4x5 view cameras

6. Fixed ("live video") adapter plates for non-Silvestri 6x9 view cameras

These lack the drop-in plate feature, and do not have stitching capability. The attached digital back can reverse only through manipulating the traditional keyhole system in the back of the Flexicam.
